It is said that when placed to an ear, a seashell holds the sound of the ocean within it. In fact, what can be heard is the resonant chamber of a foreign exoskeleton intonating the rhythms of a listener’s body and merging with ambient environmental sounds.

In ~Breath, a Charonia Tritonis shell is fitted with a small speaker. Overlaid recordings of respiratory patterns are amplified from within the shell’s cavity, sounding like distant waves of an ocean.
